Thoughts on Recording Dance Practice Footage

We didn’t have the same technology in the past. I remember playing bootleg recital pieces on VHS tapes with the television cart facing the mirror while we danced behind it to learn (pre-digital screen-mirroring). Nowadays, it is much easier to set up to record and replay performances and practice sessions.

A few weeks ago, I made a point to set up to record my last lesson. I realized that I rarely have footage of my actual connection with a partner. I have tons of videos of myself solo, or with teachers doing my steps, but no real visuals of where the partner connections are happening, or not. I am excited to finally have some real work-in-progress footage that I can look back on and reflect (and throw into TikTok).

Do you make regular recordings of your dance practice too? I would love to learn more about how you do it! Please let me know about your set-up in the comments!
